6 Great Cleaning Hacks With Ice Cubes, Better Than Chemicals

Some stains are difficult to remove with conventional cleaning agents. But the solution can be so simple. Ice cubes and a freezer are sometimes enough.

Sometimes some of the most stubborn and sticky stains need equally simple methods of cleaning. Such cleaning hacks are results of accidental discovery, someone’s trial and error, or a genius person’s sheer creativity.

Remove Wax From Sofas

A simple way of removing candle wax is to freeze it. Freezing makes the wax brittle and easy to remove. Put some ice cubes in a plastic bag and place on the wax. Wait until the wax turns hard enough. Using a spoon, rub it off.

For other objects like shoes, pillow covers, hats, etc, place the item in the freezer. Once the wax turns brittle, rub it off.

Remove Chewing Gum From Anything

Because chewing gum also loses its stickiness, therefore you can use the same freezing method. Place smaller items in the freezer and use an ice-cubes pack for carpets and sofas.

Give Mites a Cold Death

Cuddly toys make great feeding grounds for mites. Teddy bears, pillows, and other items contain human dandruff and dead skin flakes. These items, therefore, provide a rich shelter for pests. Put the items in the freezer overnight, and RIP mites. Mites die at minus 18 degrees celsius.

Remove Coffee Stains

Coffee stains are especially difficult to remove. So, If you spill coffee on your clothes, quickly place an ice cubes bag on it. This will make the stain fairly easy to remove later on.

Tupperware and Plastic Boxes

Plastic bread boxes look like new again with these four ingredients:

  • 4 ice cubes
  • 300 ml of mineral water
  • 5 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp dishwashing detergent.

And this is how you proceed:

  1. Put the detergent and sugar in the container. Mix the two together.
  2. Now add the ice cubes.
  3. Put the box aside for a few minutes. Preferably at room temperature.
  4. As soon as the ice cubes melt, add the mineral water.
  5. Mix everything together and let it sit for 10 to 15 minutes.
  6. Rinse the box with water.

You can slate clean your Tupperware even from grease.

Clean the Thermos

Stubborn incrustations in thermos flasks can be removed with an ice cube and salt mixture. Put a little of both in the container. Add a teaspoon of salt with two ice cubes. Shake well and then rinse with water.
