The First Contact Discord server was created on August 7th 2025 by my friend Cosmidoo. Prior to this, Cosmidoo had communicated vague ideas of this project. This Discord server essentially became the central resource and repository for information and lore. We continued using this until around Febuary 25th 2026. On July 10th 2026 we officially created our own wiki for storing information. I decided to use Dokuwiki and so far it's been pretty reliable and definitely feels better. For example one of the reasons it's been good is because we can have a consistent standard of quality for all pages. Before sometimes we had very low quality uneditable articles in the Discord that we could only suggest changes to.

On the more technical end, why did I choose DokuWiki? Initially I did just think I was gonna make my own Wiki software but I realized that would be ridiculous, it'd just be inferior to existing software and likely make it hard to use. Let's talk about a few alternatives I considered. Firstly I considered Miraheze, it was used for a number of popular games and seemed like a good option but my Wiki request was declined. Secondly I considered MkDocs and it seemed nice aesthetics wise but seemed annoying to maintain longterm, I didn't want to have all our editors using Github. Thirdly I considered MediaWiki, the backend of Wikipedia (and related websites) I was hesitant to use this due to the complex syntax and requirement of a database. I eventually went with DokuWiki, this Wiki software didn't require a database, was incredibly simple to use and maintain and had more features then I was even hoping for.
